A 25-year-old man is dead after the vehicle he was riding in was hit from behind in southeast Charlotte on Sunday evening.

Early Monday morning, Charlotte police identified the man as Barnette White, Jr.

According to police, White was thrown from a 1999 Toyota 4 Runner after it was hit from behind while turning onto Independence Boulevard near Village Lake Drive.  This is along the 7200-block of Independence.

Officers say the wreck occurred around 7:21 p.m.

The driver of the other vehicle, Daniel Roberts, was reportedly speeding along Independence at the time of the wreck.
