4-Year-old pulled from Lake Lookout dies at hospital

Posted: Updated:

Officials say a 4-year-old child who was pulled from Lake Lookout Saturday has died at the hospital.

The Catawba County Sheriff confirmed to WBTV that the incident happened in Lake Lookout just off of Riverbend Road.

The sheriff said the child was under water for 10 minutes on Saturday evening.

A witness told WBTV she ran to help when she heard the child was missing. By the time she got there, she says the boy was found, floating on Lake Lookout.

She says emergency crews performed CPR on the child for quite some time.

Right now, there's no official word on where the boy's parents were at the time, but the witness told WBTV that they were in the area.

The witness, who was raised on Lake Lookout, encourages parents to always keep an eye on their children.

"I've been on this lake my whole life and I just don't understand why you're not watching your kids. They can drown in two to three feet of water," she said.

The child was taken to a hospital in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, where he died Monday.
