Purse snatching robbers strike again, hit Waxhaw woman

Posted: Updated:

Police in Waxhaw believe two men wanted in a string of purse snatchings in Indian Land have now struck in their town.

Shopper Amanda Greely says she's shocked and upset to hear about the latest news in a string two men targeting female shoppers and snatching their purses.

"It makes me mad that people are that way. Go get a job and don't steal purses," said Greely.

Waxhaw Police say on Wednesday night, one of the men approached a woman in the Food Lion Parking lot on Broome Street as she got in her car.

The man demanded the woman hand over her purse. He said he had a gun, but never showed one.

He got away in a SUV driven by another person.

Police now believe these are the same men shown in surveillance video, robbing another woman that same night at the Indian Land Walmart.

The two men are also responsible for robbing two other women in Indian Land, one at a Harris Teeter, the other at a CVS.

"I leave my windows open, I just fumble with stuff getting out of the car and I'm not even paying attention to my surroundings because nothing like that has happened here before," said Greely.

Officials are now asking shoppers to take extra precautions while out in the public by making themselves aware of their environment.

"You really need to be aware of your surroundings. Look around you before you get out of the car. Keep your keys in your hands and when you come out, look around before you get in your car and even look in your car," said Detective Bobby Haulk with the Waxhaw Police Department.

"We don't encourage anyone to fight, particularly if they have a weapon, take their word for it. Your Property can be replaced, you cant," he continued.

"I hope they find whoever it is and catch them because normally I'm real relaxed here," said shopper Michelle Brunette.

Officials describe one of the robbers as a white male in his 30's-40's, standing around 6 feet tall and the other as thin, black male between 20 and 30-years-old.

Investigators say the robbers got away in a green SUV.

Officials are asking anyone with information about those responsible for this crime to call Waxhaw Police or the Lancaster County Sheriff's Office.
