INDIAN LAND, SC (WBTV) -

The Lancaster County Sheriff's Office is investigating a string of parking lot robberies in the Indian Land area.

The robberies are similar and it is believed the suspects involved are the same, according to the news release from the Lancaster County Sheriff's Office.

The first incident occurred at 6271 Carolina Commons in the parking of Harris Teeter on Monday at approximately 8:23 p.m.

During this incident a white male suspect approached a female in the parking lot. The suspect demanded that the victim give him her purse.

The suspect was described as a white male approximately 30-40 years of age, brown hair, and an orange shirt.

The suspect is believed to have fled the scene in an SUV.

The second incident occurred at 7647 Charlotte Highway in the parking lot of CVS at approximately 9:22 pm.

During this incident a white male suspect (Plaid shirt, approximately 6 feet tall, approximately 30-40 years of age) approached a 58 year old female in the parking lot.

The suspect demanded that the victim give him her purse and stated that he had a gun.  He did not display a gun.  The suspect took the victim's purse and fled the area in a dark colored SUV.

A passenger in the suspect vehicle was described as a thin black male subject.

The third incident occurred at approximately 11:01 p.m. in the Walmart parking lot located at 10048 Charlotte Highway.

During this incident, a Blue/Green SUV pulled up to a 61 year old female victim.

A thin black male suspect approximately 20-30 years of age exited the passenger side of the vehicle.

The suspect grabbed the victim's purse.

The victim struggled with the suspect and the suspect struck the victim in the face.

The victim received minor injuries.

The suspect then fled in the SUV that was driven by another subject.

"The scariest part of it feels like you're being stripped of not only your personal items, but your pride," said shopper Jennifer Walker.

WBTV spoke with several Indian Land shoppers, Thursday, who say the string of purse snatchings is disturbing.

"You're going to stoop to something as low as snatching purses off of hard working people coming out of a grocery store, buying food for their family? You can't get any lower than that," said shopper Kristine Smith.

Now, they say they'll take extra precautions when they're out and about.

"I'll probably wear my purse over my neck like this instead of having it hanging from my shoulder," said Smith.

"Hold on to your purses a little bit tighter or maybe leave your purse in the car and put your money in your pocket," said Walker.

Investigators are working diligently to determine the identity of the suspects.

Investigators are also working with other agencies in the area that have experienced similar incidents.
