LINCOLN COUNTY, NC (WBTV) -

Troopers with the North Carolina Highway Patrol said they've made an arrest in a deadly hit-and-run in Lincoln County.

State troopers said Travis Fitzpatrick, 33, turned himself in early Saturday morning.

He has been charged with felony hit-and run.

Jail officials said Fitzpatrick bonded out of jail at 8:15 a.m. on Saturday morning.

Checkpoints were set up on Summerow Road on Wednesday night. Troopers checked each vehicle, hoping to locate the vehicle that struck and killed 53-year-old Sherry Kittle.

A local body shop tried to identify the busted lens from the car's headlight but were unable to make a match on Thursday.

But on Friday, Troopers recovered an antenna from the vehicle and the body shop was able to match it with the headlight lens narrowing the vehicle to a 2001-2006 Chevrolet Tahoe, Suburban or Silverado.

"One by one, we're narrowing our scope and we're going to find out who this is," Sgt. Kelly Stewart said.

The incident happened between 8:30 and 8:45 p.m. on Summerow Road at Business Highway 321 on May 21.

Officials say Kittle was found deceased on the side of the roadway.

Anyone with information is asked to call 828-466-5500.
