CONCORD, NC (WBTV) - When Larry and Debbie Couick were married, he was 18 and she was 19.
That was 40 years ago. The two have stuck together "for better or worse", and for the better part of the past 35 years, they've been regulars at every big race at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
This year, with a milestone anniversary to celebrate, Larry decided to go big. He set up a spectacular surprise for his bride. The day started for Debby with a dozen beautiful red roses. Monday evening, the two had plans to go to dinner.
"We were going to go to Carabba's to eat," Debby said. But Larry had bigger plans. Around 5:45, a limo showed up to their spot in the campground off Morehead Road. Instead of Carabba's, the ride took them straight to the prestigious Speedway Club at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
"We get off the elevator and there's all those people there to welcome us and tell us congratulations on our 40th anniversary," Debby said.
The evening was crowned with CMS President and General Manager Marcus Smith delivering another dozen red roses to the table.
