Pedestrian hit and killed in University area

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - Police identified the pedestrian hit and killed in a Saturday night crash as 60-year-old Lee Taylor Feaster.

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department responded to a crash in the 10100 block of University City Boulevard near East Mallard Creek Church Road around 11:30 p.m. Saturday night.

Upon arrival, officers found Feaster in the median. MEDIC pronounced him deceased on the scene.

Police said 59-year-old Rena Wingate Laton was traveling inbound on University City Boulevard when Feaster was struck by her vehicle as he crossed the road.

A witness observed the vehicle swerve to avoid hitting Feaster, who did not cross the road at a marked crosswalk. The roadway was not illuminated by streetlights.

Police don't believe Laton was speeding or driving under the influence. Laton has not been charged with a crime.
