UNION COUNTY, NC (WBTV) -

A woman was arrested in Union County for driving while intoxicated and crashing with a child in the vehicle, according to police.

Saturday night, Stallings Police received a 911 call about a minivan which had crashed into a ditch near the intersection of Hawthorne Drive and Lawyers Road in Indian Trail.

When authorities arrived at the scene, they found the driver of the van, 44-year-old Emily Osborn Cunningham. They also found a four-year-old child in a car seat in the vehicle.

Officers say Cunningham was unsteady on her feet and slurring her speech. She was then given a breathalyzer test and blew a .21, nearly three times the legal limit.

Police told WBTV that Cunningham had gone to a party earlier in the evening and had taken the child with her. They believe she was attempting to drive home to Mint Hill when she crashed.

Cunningham was arrested at the scene and charged with DWI, child abuse, and reckless driving.

The four-year-old was released to the custody of a family friend.
