Multiple fire departments respond to engulfed townhouse

HUNTERSVILLE, NC (WBTV) - At about 1:00 a.m. Sunday, a fire broke out in a townhouse on Rocky Top Drive in Huntersville. Firefighters say witnesses believed residents were trapped inside a garage. Three different departments responded, including Charlotte Fire, Huntersville Fire and the Odell Fire Department.

When crews arrived, they saw heavy fire on the first and second floors. Firefighters mounted an aggressive search. No trapped residents were found.

Approximately 40 firefighters kept the blaze contained to the primary townhouse, with only minor fire and smoke damage to the two adjacent townhouses. Crews were still cleaning up hours later.

The American Red Cross confirms they are assisting three people who were displaced. There were no reported injuries.

The Mecklenburg County Fire Marshal is investigating the cause and origin.
