GREENVILLE, SC (AP/FOX Carolina) -

The New Jersey man captured in Greenville after he was accused of kidnapping his two children from their school after murdering their mother is awaiting extradition at the Greenville County Detention Center.

Judge Mark Hartle, a Greenville city magistrate, said he advised John Jordan of his rights and placed him in detention under no bond during an arraignment hearing held at 6 a.m. Saturday.

Investigators with the New Jersey State Police said officers were called to an apartment belonging to Jordan's estranged wife, Tracy, for a welfare check after receiving calls from concerned family members on Friday.

At the apartment, investigators said they found the woman stabbed to death.

Investigators then discovered Jordan had kidnapped his sons, ages 7 and 8, from their elementary school in Lodi, NJ, under false pretenses. An AMBER alert was issued, advising that Jordan may have been heading to a city in West Virginia or Greenville, SC, where investigators said Jordan has family.

Authorities said Jordan and Tracy were separated and that Jordan was not allowed to pick the children up from school.

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division canceled the AMBER alert just before 1 a.m. Saturday, after Jordan was taken into custody and his two children were recovered safely.

New Jersey State Police said the suspect was arrested without incident at his father's home in Greenville.

Hartle said Jordan is being held on a fugitive from justice charge out of Bergen County, NJ, where he is expected to face murder charges.

According to the Greenville arrest warrants, Bergen County officers stated Jordan did "purposely and/or knowingly cause the death" of Tracy Jordan while he was armed with a knife "with the purpose to use it unlawfully against the person of another."

Officers with the Greenville Police Department were unable to comment further and said the Federal Bureau of Investigation was the lead agency handling the case.
