Fans excited about Panthers’ first round pick

The Carolina Panthers wasted no time locking down a new offensive weapon.

The Panthers selected wide receiver Kelvin Benjamin as the 28th overall pick in round one of the NFL Draft.

At 6-foot-5 and 240 pounds, Benjamin made a name for himself as a prime target at Florida State University.

Panthers general manager Dave Gettleman said Benjamin's presence will be immediately noticed.

"He gives us a legitimate chance to be a number one," Gettleman said. "He is a red zone threat right now."

Fans tell WBTV they are happy with the Panthers' new weapon.

"I'm really excited with the panthers this year. Obviously lost a lot of good players in the off season but really happy with the first pick," Stephen Craver told WBTV. "Hopefully we are also looking for some offensive line help for Cam. I'm really looking forward to the rest of the draft this weekend."

Tom Fletcher agrees.

"I think it's wonderful. A big wide receiver is exactly what we need," Fletcher said.

Benjamin will visit Charlotte Friday afternoon. A press conference is scheduled for 5 p.m. at Bank of America Stadium.
