CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

A man was arrested Monday after going to a Charlotte school and acting strangely, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg School (CMS) officials.

The incident happened at Highland Mill Montessori Elementary School on N McDowell Street.

School officials told WBTV that an "unknown visitor" came in the school and went to the front office "acting strangely."

The principal was alerted and escorted the man outside before locking the doors and calling police, who took the man into custody.

The man's name and charges have not been released.

A Connect Ed message was sent out to parents to alert them of the situation.

CMS officials say the school is scheduled to have an electronic device allowing visitors to be buzzed in installed next week.
