CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

A third-grader in Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools is the North Carolina winner of the annual Doodle 4 Google contest.

Hailey Kim, is a third grader at Providence Spring Elementary.

The Doodle 4 Google contest is a competition open to K-12 students of U.S. schools to create their own Google doodle.

This year's theme is, "If I could invent one thing to make the world a better place …"

Hailey chose to doodle a Space Traveling Tunnel.

Her inspiration behind the doodle was her family and friends. She said by inventing the space tunnel to travel quickly, many people can meet, talk, love and touch face-to-face.

She wanted to be able to connect the world.

If Hailey wins she could receive a $30,000 college scholarship and a $50,000 Google for Education technology grant for her school.

The deadline to vote for Hailey is May 9th.
