Suspect in hit and run of Salisbury house now in jail

SALISBURY, NC (WBTV) - The man wanted in the hit and run that involved a house on Statesville Boulevard is now in police custody.

DeMarcus Jefferies was booked into the Rowan County Detention Center just after 3:00 pm on Thursday.

Jefferies was charged with hit and run resulting in property damage, reckless driving, and not having an operator's license.

Bond is set at $5000.

Police say Jefferies drove his Chevy Trailblazer off the road Wednesday morning and went through the yard of a house in the 3000 block of Statesville Boulevard. The SUV then hit the house.

The homeowner and family were inside at the time but were not hurt.

Jefferies jumped and ran from the car, leaving his injured girlfriend behind, according to police. That woman was treated and released from the hospital.
