I-85 traffic stop turns up pounds of pot

SALISBURY, NC (WBTV) -

On Tuesday, around 5 a.m., the Rowan County Sheriff's Office Aggressive Criminal Enforcement Unit and the Davie County Sheriff's Office working a joint enforcement effort on Interstate 85 stopped a vehicle for a moving violation.

During the course of the stop deputies discovered that the driver, Alfred Benjamin Morgan, was operating a vehicle without a driver's license and had three outstanding warrants.

Morgan's vehicle was searched and deputies discovered four pounds of high grade marijuana was located in the trunk.  The marijuana had a street value of $16,000.

The driver, Alfred Benjamin Morgan, 39, of Stone Mountain, Georgia, was charged with possession with the intent to to sell and deliver marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, no operator's license, and three outstanding warrants for failure to appear.

Morgan was jailed under $12,335 bond.

On the way into the jail Morgan repeatedly asked WBTV why he was being filmed.  When told it was about the arrest and the large amount of marijuana deputies say they seized, he refused any more comment.
