Inmate found dead inside York Co. jail, investigation underway

YORK COUNTY, SC (WBTV) -

An investigation is underway after a 35-year-old inmate was found dead inside the detention center in York County.

According to the York County Sheriff's Office, Leonard Daniel Savercool, Jr. was found lying in the floor of a housing unit unconscious and not breathing on Sunday night around 9:15 p.m.

Emergency crews were called to the jail but Savercool did not survive.

The York County Coroner's Office along with SLED is investigating the death.
 
WBTV has learned that Savercool was booked into the detention center on Friday on charges from the Fort Mill Police Department of Petit Larceny and Entering Premises after Warning. 

Savercool was from Salisbury, NC. 

"Our hearts and prayers go out to the family of Mr. Savercool during this difficult time," York County officials told WBTV.
