Severe weather looming over Wells Fargo Championship

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

As potentially severe weather moves toward Charlotte, day one of the Wells Fargo Championship week is in full swing. Pro-am action started Monday morning at Quail Hollow.

Big crowds at the golf course are expected all week.

Despite the forecast, tournament officials are moving forward with this week's schedule as planned.

There is a youth exhibition Tuesday.  Another pro-am is scheduled for Wednesday.

If necessary, WBTV is told weather warning signs will appear on the leader boards posted around the golf course.

Sirens will also sound in the event of severe weather. At that time, play will be suspended and fans will have to take necessary precautions.

"Well, I have my rain suit, my umbrella, water proof shoes, so I think I'll be ready for whatever Mother Nature wants to throw our way," said spectator Dave LeMaire.

It's looking like the weather clears up at the end of the week.

Tickets for the main event are sold out all four days, as the biggest names in golf take center stage here in Charlotte.
