Posted: Updated:

Two men were arrested Friday after fleeing from police and wrecking in a Showmars parking lot, according to the Huntersville Police Department.

The incident began when officers spotted a white Dodge Caravan with tape covering the license plate on Northcross Drive.

The officers attempted to pull the van over, but the driver refused to stop and fled at a high rate of speed.

The vehicle was soon spotted by other officers near the intersection of Statesville Road and Stumptown Road, and again, the driver took off at high speeds.

The van then went into the parking lot at Sherrill Estates Shopping Center, struck another vehicle, a stop sign, and the Showmars sign before coming to a stop in the rear of the parking lot.

Two men, later identified as 29-year-old Roger Lee Sparks and 20-year-old Justin Michael Riddle, then jumped out and ran from the scene on foot.

Both were caught nearby and placed under arrest.

Officials have not said what the duo is charged with, or why they were running from police.
