(WMC) - A hit list from a student at a Mid-South elementary school is under investigation. Scared parents and students want answers from Sycamore Elementary school in Collierville.

A concerned mother put her story on Facebook. She says she wants it shared far and wide hoping it forces the school system to do something.

"It's beyond frustrating. I can't tell you as a parent how sick it's made us. I mean, I haven't slept in two weeks," said Sycamore Elementary Mother Jill Wiernik.

Wiernik's daughter goes to Sycamore Elementary School. She says April 10, a note got passed around her classroom.

It was titled "Death Note" and listed several students' names.

"My daughter's name was on the note and she is absolutely frightened and I don't blame her. I'm frightened for her," said Wiernik.

Parents say the boy who wrote the note returned to class on Wednesday after serving his third suspension this school year. People witnessed him pretend shooting people with his hand in the lunchroom.

Angie Keisling's children also go to Sycamore Elementary. She is worried too.

"With everything that's happened in our society, with all the shootings and stabbings, I'm not comfortable leaving my kids in that environment," said Keisling.

By email, Shelby County Schools says the matter was investigated internally as well as by juvenile court, which conducted an external threat assessment on the child. Those results plus police findings determine whether or not a child may return to school.

"The school system takes threats very, very seriously, and so we'll continue to investigate. When we find out more information we'll definitely share it with you," said SCS Chief of Staff Reginald Porter Jr.

But these parents do not want the boy who wrote the note to be allowed back in class.

"This is criminal activity, and it needs to be handled not only by a juvenile court but by the board of education. And they're not looking out for the best interest of the 800 students," said Wiernik.

The district says a police officer is assigned to Sycamore Elementary campus every day ,but parents say one officer cannot prevent violence.
