CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

Mecklenburg County has been subpoenaed in the federal corruption investigation against former Charlotte Mayor Patrick Cannon.

County Attorney Marvin Bethune confirmed to WBTV that the county received a subpoena from the US Attorney's Office in Charlotte on Friday when county offices were closed for the Good Friday holiday.

County commissioners were told about the subpoena on Tuesday in a meeting with County Manager Dena Diorio.

Bethune said the county has every intention to comply, to gather the documents requested and hand them over by the deadline.

The US Attorney's Office has ordered the county not to share the subpoena or the information in it.

Cannon was elected as Charlotte mayor in November 2013 and took office in December. He resigned last month hours after being arrested by federal agents.

Cannon is accused of soliciting and accepting bribes and items of value in exchange for the use of his official position as Charlotte Mayor, Mayor Pro Tem and/or as a City Council Member.
