Thursday at 11pm: Some cope, some cut

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - About three million people in America engage in self harm. Two million have been reported to cut or burn themselves. Counselors say they are seeing more and more young people engage in this type of destructive behavior.

It's an addiction many have a hard time breaking.  Experts at Monarch Behavioral Services in East Charlotte say they have seen people as young as 7 years old get treated for harming themselves.

WBTV talked to a woman who started cutting when she was in the 5th grade. Years later, she can't stop.

WBTV's Dedrick Russell is finding out why people resort to this type of behavior and what help is available.  Dedrick is also finding out how social media plays a part in this trend.

Dedrick's full report on Cutting is Thursday night at 11 on WBTV.
