Investigators staying tight-lipped about Lake Park death investigation

The Union County Sheriff's Office is not releasing much information about a death investigation in Lake Park.

Around 11 a.m. Monday, 50-year-old James Hudspeth was reported missing by his wife after he didn't return home from a routine morning jog.

Around 6 p.m. that same day, officials said his body was discovered behind a storage building at Faith United Methodist Church.

The church is located within a mile of where Hudspeth lived.

Cpt. Ronnie Whitaker would not say if there were any signs of foul play.

"Right now we are just investigating this as a death investigation. We'll be waiting for the medical examiner's results to see how we proceed from there," Whitaker said.

Lonnie Pittman, the pastor of Faith United Methodist Church, offered his condolences to the Hudspeth family.

"My heart and my prayers go out to the family and the community as we continue to discover what happened with this tragedy," Pittman said.

Union County Sheriff Eddie Cathey said the incident was "highly unusual" for Lake Park.

"An incident of this magnitude is obviously a serious matter of concern for the citizens in this community, and for our agency," Sheriff Cathey said, adding, "We will work diligently to bring closure to this family and to this community as a result of this tragedy."

Detectives did not say when they expect to get autopsy results back from the medical examiner.
