IREDELL COUNTY, NC (WBTV) -

An Atlanta man faces drug charges after deputies in Iredell County stopped his car Thursday morning for a traffic violation.

51-year-old Antonio Martinez was driving a 1995 Cadillac on I-77 when police say he was pulled over at 9:40 a.m. for following too closely.

Deputies say they searched the car after smelling a strong odor of marijuana and found a cardboard box with Mason jars containing pot. Police say the 18 jars contained 482 grams of hydroponic marijuana with a street value of $9,640.

The sheriff's office says deputies also found several weapons concealed within the vehicle, including three pistols, a shotgun, an SKS assault rifle and 1000 rounds of ammunition.

The search also turned up equipment used to grow marijuana, including lights, extension cords, fans, fertilizer, vent tubes, and a portable tent, according to the sheriff's office. Deputies confiscated the growing equipment, the Cadillac, and nearly $4000 in cash.

Martinez is charged with possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana, felony possession of marijuana, maintaining a vehicle for controlled substance, carrying concealed weapons and possession of drug paraphernalia. He is being held in the Iredell County Detention Center on $50,000 bond.
