Report: Employee stole $100,000+ in funds from cemetery plot sales

LENOIR, NC (WBTV) -

A Lenoir woman was arrested after she allegedly stole more than $100,000 from sales made at a local cemetery, according to the Lenoir Police Department.

Sherry Lynn Phillips Nichols, 48, was arrested Thursday and charged with felony larceny by employee in excess of $100,000.

Investigators said that on March 28, Lenoir Police received a report of an employee stealing money from the city.

Nichols worked as a customer service representative at the Blue Ridge Cemetery on Wilkesboro Boulevard. Police say she was stealing city funds generated from sales made at the cemetery.

All lots purchased at the have been accounted for, and police say no customers have lost funds paid to the cemetery.

Nichols was taken to the Caldwell County Detention Facility and placed under a $50,000 bond.

She is due in court on April 21.
