Emergency crews responded after a train struck a truck in South End near uptown Wednesday.
The wreck happened on West Summit Avenue around 5 p.m.
According to the report, the driver of the truck went around a railroad crossing that was in the down position, and the truck was struck by the train.
The driver, later identified as Guy Wiley, Jr., of Panther Distributing, was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
From WBTV's Sky 3, the truck could be seen on its side just off the railroad tracks and appeared to be heavily damaged. Debris could be seen scattered throughout the scene.
The train crew was not injured, but officials say approximately $50,000 in damage was done to the train and crossing arms.
Police said Wiley was issued a traffic citation.
