Neighbors call on city to block commercial development

GASTON COUNTY, NC (WBTV) -

Neighbors in Gastonia are joining together, calling on city leaders to block commercial development in their neighborhood.

A six acre piece of land, which currently serves as a buffer zone between East Franklin Boulevard and Glenwood Drive, is the target of a rezoning request.

That request will be taken up by city council tonight.

According to council members, the property in question is owned by Edith M. Powell Trust and Powell Realty & Trading Co. Inc. They wish to change the property from RS-12 (Residential District) to C-3(General Commercial District).

Council will discuss the issue at a meeting tonight at 6 p.m.
