Investigators are working to determine what caused an early morning fire in south Charlotte that displaced over 20 people including adults and children.

One dog was also reportedly killed in the fire.

No injuries have been reported but officials told WBTV the fire destroyed four apartments and severely damaged four more at the Emerald Bay apartments along Moncrest Drive.

Firefighters received a call at 2:29 this morning and respond at 2:36.

When they arrived they found the top units fully engulfed in flames.

Firefighters spent about 36 minutes containing the fire.

Then, they had to chuck out debris out of the second floor unit apartments to get an indication of what may have caused this fire.

No word yet on cost of damage. No one was injured, but a pet dog was died.
