CONCORD, NC (WBTV) -

Engines are roaring at zMAX Dragway in Concord where the NHRA Four Wide Nationals are going on through Sunday.

Many of the drivers on the track Friday weren't from big budget race teams, but they are weekend warriors in the Sportsman Division investing their own money in the car and using family and friends as a crew.

There are all kinds of drivers, and all kinds of cars in the Sportsman Division.  And while they all have a unique look, there is one that may be the most original.

"I just wanted something different, I'm a big guy, loving spirit, and I just wanted something totally different that nobody else had," said Tyrone Graham of Sherrills Ford.

A big guy?  Well, he said it first.  Tyrone Graham weighs about 500 pounds and his nickname is Big Sexy.

Family and friends make up the crew for the car painted to look like the world's fastest rust bucket.

"This is a 1955 Chevrolet with a 706 big block Chevrolet in it." Graham told WBTV.

On Friday Big Sexy was qualifying the car for this Top Sportsman National Event.  His racing has gained him a following.  He's one of the most popular local drivers, and even was a winner a couple years back on the Pinks reality racing show.

On Friday, his first run wasn't quite as fast as he would have liked.

"It was okay," said Tyrone's wife Leslie.  "We still got a little work to do to get ready for the next round but it's got a lot more in it."

Leslie says they'll find the speed, they already have the heart.

"He's been racing, he's been going to tracks since he was a little kid...it's just all he knows, this is everything he does, he don't love anything else but racing, that's it," Leslie said, before having a second thought.  "Well, he does love me, but he loves his race car too."

The NHRA Four Wide Nationals continue through Sunday.

Gates open at 7:30 am and racing starts at 8 on Saturday.  Gates open at 8 am on Sunday with prerace activities starting at 11.
