Downtown Belmont restaurant robbed at gunpoint, police looking for suspects

BELMONT, NC (WBTV) -

A restaurant in downtown Belmont was robbed late Tuesday night.

The robbery was reported at The String Bean at 11:45 p.m. on the 100 block of N. Main Street, according to the Belmont Police Department.

Officers spoke to two employees who were robbed at gun point as they stood outside the restaurant while taking a break.

The victims stated that while on break they were approached by a white male and a black male both armed with what appeared to be hand guns.

The black male had a red bandana on his face.

Police say one of the victims was assaulted when the black male robber struck him in the head.

After the one victim was assaulted both victims were ordered to get on the ground by the robbers.

Once on the ground the robbers went through the victims pockets and stole personal items.

After the robbery the robbers fled the scene on foot.

The victim that was assaulted was treated by EMS units on the scene. His injuries appeared to be minor.
