CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

Three men have been arrested in connection to a west Charlotte carjacking.

The incident was reported on Sunday at 3 a.m. on the 6400 block of Whitewater Drive, according to Charlotte police.

The victim told police that he was sleeping in the back of a friend's Jeep Cherokee when he woke up and saw two black males inside the vehicle.

The two men robbed him at gunpoint of his phone and took the Jeep.

On Monday police located the vehicle in the parking lot of Vance High School.

The driver of the Jeep did not stop and drove to the back parking lot where the three men inside jumped out and ran into the woods.

Tyquan Powell, 18, the driver, dropped a handgun magazine while running from police. The two others, Christopher Jones, 18, and Elijah Craig, 19, were arrested after a brief foot chase.

Powell was arrested in the 8100 block of IKEA Boulevard.

He was charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon, conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon, resisting a public officer and possession of a stolen vehicle.

Craig was charged with resisting a public officer and Jones was charged with resisting a public officer and possession of a stolen vehicle.

The investigation is ongoing and detectives are asking anyone with information concerning these cases or the suspects to call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.

Officials say Vance High, James Martin Middle, Nathaniel Alexander Elementary, and John Morehead Stem schools were all placed on lockdown just before 3 p.m. Monday.

The lockdown was lifted around 3:30 p.m. and the schools were dismissed.
