CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

One person was killed after being struck by a vehicle in west Charlotte, according to officials.

The incident happened on the 3200 block of Wilkinson Boulevard near Donald Ross Road around 9:45 p.m. Tuesday.

The pedestrian, 55-year-old Ronald Renel Vance, was killed as he was trying to cross Wilkinson Boulevard from the Wal-Mart to get to his home, police say.

He was hit by a 2012 Hyundai Sonata being driven by 33-year-old Leah Gatewood.

The impact made Vance fall to the ground where he was then fatally hit by a 1990 Mercedes Benz driven by 61-year-old Reuben Kenneth Jr.

No other injuries were reported.

Wilkinson Boulevard was shut down between Ashley Road and Old Steele Creek Road as emergency crews worked the scene.

Police say speed and alcohol are not factors in the accident.

No charges have been filed.
