STATESVILLE, NC (WBTV) -

A Statesville man is charged with cable theft and obtaining property by false pretense after investigators say he illegally installed cable television in the county.

Randy James Sigmon, 30, of Statesville, was charged and released under a $1,500 unsecured bond, according to the Iredell County Sheriff's Office.

Sigmon was arrested on March 28 after an investigation was launched at the request of Time Warner Cable after Sigmon posted an ad on Craigslist.

Time Warner believed that this ad was taken out by a sub-contractor that worked for Time Warner Cable.

The cable company told Time Warner Cable they said that this is an increasing problem with contractors hooking up illegal cable for a one-time charge and no monthly bill.

Investigators made contact with the "cable guy" and set up an appointment for the cable hookup.

Detectives were able to secure a vacant apartment to use and once the cable was hooked up and money changed hands Sigmon was taking into custody without incident.
