Coastal Carolina rallied from an early 3-0 deficit with the game's final seven runs to top Charleston Southern, 7-3, on a rainy Friday night at Pelicans Park.
Coastal improves to 11-15 overall and 3-4 in Big South play. CSU falls to 15-12 overall and 1-6 in conference play.
Coastal scored in its final four at-bats including a three-run sixth to take the lead for good. Shortstop Michael Paez was 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored. Right fielder Colin Hering added two RBI to lead the CCU attack.
Paez had a two-run double in the sixth as the big blow for the Chanticleers. CCU added an insurance run in the seventh and eighth to extend its lead.
CSU third baseman Alex Tomasovich extended the nation's longest active hit streak with a single in his second at-bat. Juniors Bobby Ison and Chase Shelton each had to hits for the Buccaneers.
Coastal's Tyler Herb worked a complete game to improve to 4-3. He worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the ninth to win his fourth straight start.
CSU's Tory Schroff (LP, 2-1) suffered his first loss of the season, scattering seven hits and allowing four earned runs.
CSU got going against Costal starter Tyler Herb in the top of the second. Chase Shelton and Nick Berry had back-to-back lead off singles to go with a walk to Andrew Widell as CSU loaded the bases with no outs. A passed ball to go with a sacrifice fly by Zack Hagaman and an RBI single by Kevin Hickey cleared the base to give CSU a 3-0 lead.
Coastal outhit the Bucs, 11-10. Catcher Sam Remick also had two hits for the Bucs.
The two teams play again tomorrow at 3 p.m. at Pelicans Park.
