Report: Man arrested for east Charlotte armed robbery

A man was arrested in Charlotte after he robbed a local business at gunpoint, according to a release from the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department.

The incident took place on March 21 at Kids Co. Variety on Monroe Road in southeast Charlotte.

The store clerk told officers a man came into the store, pulled a gun from his waistband, and demanded money from the register.

The report states that an off-duty officer noticed a car idling behind the business before the robbery, and "made a point to obtain a tag number." A person near the store also saw the robber get into a car and leave the area.

That vehicle was soon spotted and the driver, 20-year-old Jerell Parish Banks, was arrested for the robbery. Police say the investigation also pointed to Banks as the potential suspect.

Banks was charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon and conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon.
