A Lancaster County family wants the man responsible for killing their loved one in jail.
The shooter lives just yards away from the family.
Lancaster County Sheriff's Officials say 21-year-old David Hammer died in the front yard of his sister's home after being shot at point blank range.
"He had this smile that you'll never forget, if you see it and now we'll never see it again," said Hammer's mother, Donna Hammer.
Family members of Hammer fought to hold back tears as they described the Fort Mill man who they say had a heart of gold.
"He was the sweetest, caring person. If he had it and someone needed it, it was theirs. He wouldn't think twice about it," said Hammer's fiance Jennifer Tadlock.
Around 2:30 Saturday morning, Lancaster County Sheriff's deputies were called out to the home in the 800 block of Fort Mill Highway in reference to a disturbance.
Family members say Hammer, his fiance and sister got into an argument that spilled over into the front yard.
That's when Hammer's fiance says the sister's landlord who lives next door came out of his house and took the life of the 21-year-old.
WBTV stopped by the landlord's house for a comment, but was asked to leave the property.
Officials say the landlord shot Hammer in self defense, but that's still under investigation.
It's now up to the solicitor's office to decide whether or not to press charges.
As for Hammer's family, they want the shooter to be prosecuted for killing a man they say was kind person, set to marry his fiance later this year.
"We had already planned everything and bought everything except for his suit and paid for our cake to be made. Now that'll never happen," said Tadlock.
Officials expect for a decision to be made this week whether or not to press charges against the shooter.
Hammer's family has set up a website to help pay for funeral costs, click here to donate.
