FLORENCE, SC (WMBF) – Three people have been arrested and charged after a 14-year-old girl was accidentally shot on Meadow Farms Road on Friday, March 21.

Dontavious Hickson, 18, was arrested Wednesday and is facing charges for selling the weapon to a 16-year-old boy who fired the weapon at his sister, resulting in her gunshot injury, confirmed Major Carlos Raines with the Florence Police Department.

The 16-year-old boy has been charged with possession of firearm by minor, filing a false police report and discharging a firearm in city limits. A second juvenile was charged with firing a weapon within the city in connection with the shooting, Major Raines said.

Five teens were walking together down the road at about 5:22 p.m., and a couple of them were taking turns firing a gun, Major Raines said. The girl was accidentally shot when the gun was being passed to her, he said.

Major Raines said the story of a suspect pulling up in a car and shooting the victim after chasing the teens on foot was made up by the teens because they knew they would get in trouble for having a gun.

The extent of the victim's injuries is not known.
