CORNELIUS, NC (WBTV) -

A Rock Hill man was found guilty in court Thursday for the statutory rape of a 14-year-old girl that took place in Cornelius in 2012.

Michael Brian Wise, 44, was convicted of one count of statutory rape and two counts of statutory sex offense.

Officials say that in August of 2012 Wise drove from his home in Rock Hill to a park in Cornelius to meet a 14-year-old girl that he met through Facebook.  He then drove the girl to a nearby parking lot where he engaged her in sexual acts.

When he drove the girl back to the park, his vehicle was spotted by a Cornelius Police Patrol Officer.

That officer approached the van to investigate why it was in the park after hours. Wise was then interviewed by a detective and confessed to the crime, officials told WBTV.

After a four-day trial, Wise was found guilty as charged and sentenced to three consecutive sentences of 192 to 291 months in prison, totaling a minimum of 48 years.

Upon release from prison, Wise will have to register as a sex offender.
