The Gaston County Police Department has charged a couple with child abuse and manufacturing methamphetamine.
Investigators tell WBTV Amy Carroll Brown and Michael Shane Carroll were making methamphetamine inside the home they share with their four young children.
Officers said they raided the Carroll's home on March 7. Inside, investigators said they discovered a meth lab.
On top of the manufacturing charges, the suspects were also charged with four counts of child abuse and four counts of neglect, according to police.
Neighbor Debbie Carroll tells WBTV it was not uncommon to smell chemicals near her home.
Carroll also told WBTV she's happy police made the bust before the situation got worse.
"He could have wiped out the whole neighborhood if it exploded, if he had an explosion, and it's scary," Carroll said.
A Sergeant with the Gaston County Police Department told WBTV the couple could also be facing drug trafficking charges.
