LANCASTER, SC (WBTV) -

A Lancaster county teenager is dead after South Carolina Highway Patrol officials say he ran his car off the road, slamming into a utility pole and a tree.

The accident happened around 12:40 Monday morning in the 1800 block of Potter Road in Lancaster County.

Highway Patrol officials say 19-year-old Steve Albert ran his Mazda Miata off the right side of the road, striking a utility pole and then a tree.

The Lancaster County Deputy Coroner said Albert died at the scene from blunt force trauma to the head and chest.

Officials say he was not wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash and was not ejected from the car.
