An area of low pressure will ride along a cold front pushing through the Carolinas. Rain could be heavy at times in the afternoon and evening on Sunday. Once the low moves to our east, things really get interesting.
Colder air continues to filter in on the back side of the low, and that could mean a wintry mix with sleet and freezing rain at times Monday through Tuesday morning before the system moves out to sea. Sleet and freezing rain are more likely north of Charlotte, but models are inconsistent, and there is a decent chance that we see at least a little bit of a wintry mix in the metro area, beginning as early as Monday morning.
Sunshine will return on Wednesday with highs rebounding into the low 60s.
