Domestic violence call turns into death investigation for police

Posted: Updated:

Police say one man was fatally shot at the 6300 block of Elliott Drive in North Charlotte just after 3:30 a.m. Saturday morning.

Police identified the man as 28-year-old Jamario Bernard Jackson.

Officers with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department say they responded to a domestic violence call and found the Jackson suffering from a gunshot wound.

"It is a surprise," said a neighbor. "You don't think people would escalate to that point where they lose it - to the point of taking someone's life."

MEDIC pronounced the man Jackson on the scene, officers say.

Police say the shooting appears to be domestic related and have identified and interviewed a suspect in the case.

"I'm overwhelmed actually because honestly I cannot believe what I heard this morning," said Amanda Campbell, another neighbor.

The case will be reviewed by the District Attorney's Office to determine if charges will be filed according to CMPD.

The Sunset Oaks neighborhood president described the neighborhood as a quiet place.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call 704-432-TIPS and speak directly to a Homicide Unit Detective.
