55 charged at DWI checkpoint, police say

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

Police say 55 people were charged at a Friday night DWI checkpoint at the 5600 block of Wilkinson Boulevard from 11 p.m. to 3 a.m.

Officers were checking for DWI and other traffic violations.

11 people were charged with DWI, four people were charged with DWI under 21, and two people were charged with aid and abet DWI according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.

Officers also reported eight revoked license charges, two open container charges, four misdemeanor drug charges, and two felony drug charges.

Officers tested drivers with the Mobile Breath testing bus.

CMPD says officers from the Pineville Police Department, the Matthews Police Department, the Cornelius Police Department, troopers from the North Carolina Highway Patrol, and ABC assisted with the DWI checkpoint.

27 officers were at the checkpoint, police say.

The DWI check was part of the St. Patrick's Day Booze It and Lose It campaign which kicked off midnight Saturday morning and will run through Monday night,
