12 people charged with DWI at CMPD checkpoint Thursday night

Police in Charlotte charged 12 people with driving under the influence at a DWI checkpoint Thursday evening.

The checkpoint was in the 2300 block of Park Road near the American Red Cross from 11 p.m. until 3 a.m. Friday morning, according to a news release from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.

Twelve people were issued driving while under the influence citations.

Police also issued 10 citations for driving while license revoked, six for no driver's license, 13 inspection violations, eight misdemeanor drug charges, two felony drug charges and three charges for carrying a concealed weapon, according to the release.

The checkpoint was part of the Governor's Highway Safety Program St. Patrick's Day Booze It and Lose It campaign which runs through Monday night.
