Wild Wednesday

Hi everyone, this is Paul Cameron in the WBTV Newsroom where it has been a wild Wednesday.

The day started with a double murder near Morganton. A husband and wife killed after a struggle. Police began looking for the son. They set up a manhunt in the woods. And then, a shootout. 38-year old US Forest Officer Jason Crisp and his service dog, both gunned down. Troy Whisnant was the man they were after. When ordered to put down his gun, officers opened fired and killed him.

Tonight, we're putting all the pieces together in the sad story-- the murder of Whisnant's parents and the death of a father and husband killed in the line of duty.

We're also tracking big changes coming in weather. You can probably already feel the gusty winds bringing back another shot of Old Man winter. Kelly Franson says snow in parts of the mountains tonight and much colder temperatures in Charlotte tomorrow.

And the hottest topic of the day is Steve Smith's agent telling a writer he's caught his last pass for the Carolina Panthers. Smitty expects to be traded or cut shortly. Why? Salary certainly plays a huge role as the Cats must find a way to trim down under the NFL salary cap. But, reports tonight says the team felt Smith was a distraction, that they want the young Cam Newton and Luke Keuchly to become the team's leaders.

Please join Molly Grantham, Kelly Franson, Delano Little and me for WBTV News at 11:00 tonight!
