LEBANON, OH (FOX19) -

A Mason man convicted of his seventh operating a vehicle under the influence (OVI) charge on Monday will spend eight years in prison, the maximum sentence allowed under Ohio law.

Ralph Pottorf, Jr., 48, was found guilty of the most recent offense on Monday by a Warren County jury. Prosecutors said all seven OVI charges happened in the last 14 years.

Last December, Pottorf was driving north on U.S. Route 42 in Union Township when he crashed into a fence on the side of the road. Authorities said the property owner heard the crash and saw Pottorf  driving the vehicle forward and in reverse, trying to disentangle his vehicle from the fence.

When he was unsuccessful, authorities said the 48-year-old got out of his car and started walking south on U.S. Route 42. Pottorf was arrested nearby and showed signs of being under the influence, police said. He refused a breathalyzer test.

Pottorf has a lengthy criminal history, including several prior felonies and has served multiple prison sentences. Warren County Judge James Flannery noted that his most recent offense happened less than a year after Pottorf was released from prison for his last felony OVI conviction.
