New physician joins Novant Health Rowan Medical Center

SALISBURY, N.C. (AP) -

A new physician has joined the staff at Novant Health Rowan Medical Center, according to a press releases provided to WBTV.

Mark Emery, MD, a new physician to provide ear, nose, throat and allergy care to patients from children to adults.  Dr. Emery joins Dr. Robert Whitaker at Novant Health Pinnacle Ear, Nose, Throat and Allergy in Salisbury.  Dr. Emery will also share time in the clinic's Thomasville office in addition to his time in Salisbury.
 
Dr. Emery is a graduate of East Carolina University School of Medicine in Greenville, NC and is board-certified in otolaryngology.  He brings 15 years of experience to the clinic and is a member of the American Board of Otolaryngology, Head and Neck surgery; the American Association of Otolaryngic Allergy; and the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.

The cancer she has is so rare that only about 2,000 people are diagnosed in the United States each year, yet doctors WBTV spoke with Tuesday say there is a concentrated number of cases showing up in this area.

    Wesley Chapel Fire Department battled a residential fire in Union County Tuesday night. Officials say flames were showing upon their arrival. The fire was extinguished within ten minutes, reports stated. No injuries were reported. The Red Cross was called to assist the homeowner.

    Briggs, the dog York County police found with his tongue cut off and tied to a tree, passed away Tuesday night.  Noah's Arks Rescue posted an update on Briggs stating he had become septic and was unable to keep down any food or water from the previous day.
