The 11th annual 2014 Carolina Ruggerfest kicked off at the Mecklenburg County Sportsplex in Matthews on Saturday.
Around 40 high school rugby teams will be competing in back to back games on Saturday and Sunday, officials say.
Ruggerfest is one of the first large events to be held at the newly opened Mecklenburg County SportsPlex in Matthews.
Ruggerfest is open to the public.
Officials say there will be back to back games from 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
The event is hosted by the The North Carolina Youth Rugby Union (NCYRU), a non-profit group that is the governing body for youth rugby in the state.
Admission is five dollars.
Some college rugby games will be played at Butler High School in the evenings as part of Ruggerfest.

A woman visiting the probation office ended up going back to jail on drug charges. According to the report, Shawna Marie Dickinson, 40, of Carolina Boulevard, went to the probation office on Thursday.
