CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

Emergency crews responded to a fuel leak from a tractor trailer on I-77 Thursday afternoon that caused some traffic problems for drivers.

The leak happened on the northbound I-77 ramp from WT Harris Boulevard, which is exit 18. Officials said the truck had just gassed up, and lost up to 50 gallons of fuel due to the leak.

According to the Long Creek Fire Department, Hazmat crews were called to the scene to remove diesel fuel from the truck's tanks.

Drivers are asked to use caution, and avoid the area if possible.
