Apartment fire that displaced 22 was intentional, investigators say

HICKORY, NC (WBTV) -

Firefighters in Hickory say an apartment fire that left three families displaced and several units destroyed was intentionally set.

The fire was reported at 2:38 a.m. at an apartment complex on the 200 block of 9th Avenue Place Southwest in Hickory.

Firefighters arrived to see smoke and flames coming from the eight-unit apartment complex.

The fire was under control within 53 minutes.

Investigators say the building suffered major damage.

The American Red Cross is on scene helping the 22 residents displaced by the fire.

No injuries were reported.

Investigators later said they believe that the fire was intentional, but have not released any other information.
