Rowan Helping Ministries receives $5000 Food Lion donation

Rowan Helping Ministries has received $5,000 from the Food Lion Charitable Foundation just in time for spring to help feed local residents during times when giving is lower than other times of the year.

Rowan Helping Ministries will use the gift to purchase peanut butter, rice and dried beans to provide the basics to families finding themselves food insecure.  This assures protein is provided to all families; keeping nutrition at the forefront.

Last fiscal year, Rowan Helping Ministries provided 511,203 pounds of groceries and prepared 95,243 meals for families and individuals.  The generosity of Food Lion Charitable Foundation is instrumental in making it possible for Rowan Helping Ministries to provide food to our neighbors in need in Rowan County.

“This gift through the Food Lion Charitable Foundation is yet another way our local grocer, Food Lion, continues to partner with Rowan Helping Ministries to feed the hungry and the food insecure families in our community.  Our County is fortunate to have strong corporate donors in our community like Food Lion,” stated Kyna Grubb, Executive Director of Rowan Helping Ministries.

Food Lion, based in Salisbury, NC, is a company of Delhaize America, the U.S. division of Brussels-based Delhaize Group (NYSE: DEG).  Food Lion, with a longstanding heritage of low prices and convenient locations, operates more than 1,100 supermarkets in 10 Southeastern and Mid-Atlantic states, and employs approximately 57,000 associates.  For more information, visit www.foodlion.com.
